How to make biodata online

  1. Start. Upload an old resume or biodata (PDF or Word), or begin on a blank page.
  2. Personal details. Add your date of birth, the languages you know and your hobbies; they appear in a personal-details section.
  3. Education and experience. Degrees with marks, then jobs with dates, most recent first.
  4. Declaration. Add the standard line with place and date; your name goes where the signature would.
  5. Download. Preview the whole page free; download the PDF when it's ready.

What a biodata for job applications leaves out

No fields for religion, caste, marital status or father's name, and no ID numbers such as Aadhaar or PAN. They are not needed for most jobs, and a government form that needs them has its own boxes.

Applying to a private company instead? Most want a resume: see the resume format for India.

No. This is a job biodata: the document some employers and government offices ask for instead of a resume.

Biodata or resume: which should I send?

Send what the job asks for. Most private companies want a resume; a biodata is still asked for by some government offices, schools and traditional employers. See the biodata format guide for the difference.
