CV or resume?
CV vs resume: which one do you need?
- A resume is a short summary written for one job: the usual word in the US and Canada.
- A CV is a fuller record of your career: in the UK and the EU it is simply the everyday word for the job document, and in the US it mostly means a long academic or research record.
- What is a CV vs a resume, then? Mostly where you apply. CVEmber works as a free CV maker or resume maker, free to build and preview: pick your country's format and it builds either.

FAQ
Questions about the resume maker, answered.
Is CVEmber really free?
Building, editing, previewing and ATS checks are free, with no card, and so is tailoring: unlimited and free. Downloading needs a one-time plan, from : Starter for a month, Pro for three months, or Pro Lifetime with no end date. One payment. Nothing renews, so there's nothing to cancel.
Is this honest?
Yes. CVEmber never changes your employers, dates, degrees or certifications, and never invents facts outright. In Stretch, we may suggest bolder wording and bounded, clearly marked numbers, and nothing is added until you confirm it. You see each line before it goes in, and you can put your original wording back with one click.
What if I don't have that experience?
Tailoring won't add experience you don't have. Where a job asks for something your resume doesn't show, we ask you first. If a number would help, we suggest one and you confirm it, change it, or leave the line out. Only keep what is true and what you can talk about in an interview; we list every claim so you can prepare.
Is tailoring free?
Yes. Tailoring is unlimited and free (fair use applies, with limits far above normal use), and so are building, editing, previewing and ATS checks. Downloading needs a one-time plan, from ; nothing renews.
How is this different from a chatbot?
A chatbot writes whatever you ask for. CVEmber starts from your own resume, shows how well you fit the job first, checks every proposed line against your facts, and applies only what you approve. It also exports a clean, ATS-readable PDF.
Do I need an account for the free tools?
No. The free tools (ATS checker, resignation, cover and relieving letters) work without an account and without a daily limit, and run on your device. A free account lets you carry a checked resume into the builder.
Will employers know I had help?
No. We suggest wording from your own experience and, when you tailor, from that job ad. CVEmber never changes your employers, dates, degrees or certifications, and never invents facts outright. In Stretch, we may suggest bolder wording and bounded, clearly marked numbers, and nothing is added until you confirm it. Nothing changes until you approve it. The result is a plain, well-written resume with nothing in the file that gives it away.
Can you give me my ATS score?
Yes, free, in about 30 seconds. Your ATS score says how clearly software can read your resume: your details, each job and its dates, sections, skills and the job's keywords. We show exactly what it read and what to fix. No score can promise a job: each company's system is its own.
What does "ATS-friendly" mean?
An ATS resume is one the applicant tracking system can read in full. Most companies put resumes through an ATS before a person reads them. It reads plain text best: your name at the top, clear headings, and one column. Every CVEmber template exports real text, and each one tells you whether it's one column (best for online applications) or two (fine when you email a person).
What happens to my data?
Checking a resume doesn't save your score. If you upload a PDF, its reading is kept for up to 7 days so you can continue into the builder, then deleted automatically. Resumes you build are stored in your account so you can come back to them, and we never share them.
Can I make a resume from my LinkedIn profile?
Yes. Save your LinkedIn profile as a PDF and upload it. We read your jobs, education and skills into a template, and you check every line before it goes in.
What is the difference between a CV and a resume?
A resume is a short summary written for one job. A CV is a fuller record of your career. In the UK, Ireland and the EU, CV is the usual word for a job application document, and in India both words are used. Pick the format for the country you are applying in, and CVEmber builds either.
Can I download my resume as a PDF or Word file?
Yes. Every template downloads as a real-text PDF and as an editable Word file (.docx). Downloading needs a one-time plan, from . Nothing renews.
