What does a data analyst do?
They pull records with SQL, clean and join them in Excel or Python, build dashboards in Power BI or Tableau, and explain trends to sales, operations, finance or product teams. Your resume should name SQL, advanced Excel, one BI tool and some Python as separate skills, and show the habit of checking numbers before anyone sees them.
Data Analyst resume format and template
- Put a Skills block near the top with SQL, your BI tool and Python named separately, as the posting lists them.
- Add one line with the size of the data you worked on (rows, users, dashboards): it shows real scale.
- Link a public dashboard or GitHub project for fresher resumes; keep it to two or three projects.
The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

Applying for data analyst jobs in India
- A resume for a data analyst fresher in India shows CGPA with the scale and puts the two best projects above any generic skills.
- Freshers can open with a one-line objective: the role, SQL, one BI tool and the domain you want.
- State your notice period or "Immediate joiner"; analytics hiring in Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad filters on it.
- Put "Data Analyst | SQL | Power BI | Python" in your Naukri resume headline and keep the key skills field in sync.
What should a resume for a data analyst fresher or entry-level candidate include?
A short summary, work or internship experience with numbers (rows queried, dashboards built, hours saved), two or three projects with a link, education, and a skills block that names SQL, Excel, a BI tool and Python separately so a keyword scan finds each one.
Which skills matter most for a data analyst?
SQL comes first, then advanced Excel, Power BI or Tableau, and basic Python with pandas. Statistics and clear communication round it out. Put the tools in a skills block and prove each with a number in your experience lines.
Do I need Python to get hired as a data analyst?
Not for every job, but many postings list it. If you know pandas and can show one project, include it; otherwise be honest and lead with SQL and Excel. A short, linked project is better evidence than a long skills list.
Should an objective for a data analyst resume mention projects?
Yes for entry-level candidates and career changers: name the role and your best project in one line, then list two or three projects. Give each project one line on the data size, the method and the finding, with a link to the dashboard or notebook, and keep it to two or three so the page stays focused.
What are good data analyst projects for resume use?
Two or three that use real, public data and end in a finding: a sales dashboard in Power BI, a SQL analysis of a public dataset, or a churn analysis in Python. On a data analyst resume for freshers they replace work experience, so give each one a line with the tool, the data size and the result.
Which data analyst keywords should I include?
The tools and methods the job posting names, such as SQL, Excel, Power BI or Tableau, Python, data cleaning, dashboards and A/B testing. Use the posting's spelling and show each in a bullet as well as in the skills list.
How should a data analytics resume or entry level data analyst resume look?
A data analytics resume lists tools such as SQL, Excel, Python and Tableau, then projects with the question, the data size and the decision it changed. An entry level data analyst resume leads with coursework, a portfolio project and any internship. A resume for data analytics roles should stay on one page and link a dashboard.
