Resume examples by job

Pick your job for three samples, from entry-level to senior, with the summary, bullet points and skills that role needs. Every sample is illustrative: the people and figures are made up. Great resume examples share three things: a summary with one number, bullets that start with a verb and end with a result, and the skills the job advert names in its own words.

How to write a resume, section by section

The order is the same for almost every job; what changes is what you put in each section. The resume examples for job titles above show each part filled in, from a first job to a senior one. Read the job advert before you start: its title, tools and qualifications are the words your resume should use.

  1. Contact details: name, phone, email, city and LinkedIn. No full address.
  2. Summary: three lines with your years, your strongest skill and one number.
  3. Work experience: latest job first; two to four bullets each, verb first, result last.
  4. Education and certifications: the degrees and certificates the job screens for.
  5. Skills: the tools and skills from the job advert, in its words.

Good resume examples: what to copy from basic resume examples

Good resume examples are the ones you can read in ten seconds and still know what the person did and how well. Basic examples, with one column, plain headings and no graphics, usually beat a designed page, because a recruiter and a screening program read them the same way. Examples of professional resumes also share a habit: each bullet starts with a verb and ends with a result you could check.

If you are a nurse, an executive, a student or a parent returning to work, go straight to that page: the RN resume example, the executive resume samples, the computer science resume example and the stay at home mom resume example each carry three full samples for their own situation.

Example of a CV and CV sample: is it different?

In the US a CV sample and a resume sample are not the same document: a CV is the long academic record, and a resume is one or two pages tailored to a job. If you searched for an example of a CV and want an academic one, the academic CV page has it; for most other jobs the samples above are the document employers mean, even when the posting asks for a CV.
