Actor & Acting Resume Examples

An actor expresses ideas and portrays characters in theater, film, television and other performing arts, and the work covers reading scripts, auditions, memorizing lines, rehearsals and performing the role under a director. An actor resume should prove skills such as screen acting, stage performance and audition self-tapes with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

What does an actor do?

In the US, BLS says work assignments are often brief, from 1 day to a few months, and part-time work is common, so a resume lists credits rather than duties. Professional acting resumes are one page, usually with a headshot attached, and the three samples below are an acting resume example for each stage of a career.

Actor duties to put on a resume

  • Read scripts and meet with agents and other professionals before accepting a role.
  • Audition in front of directors, producers and casting directors.
  • Memorize lines for each role.
  • Rehearse lines and performance, on stage or in front of the camera.
  • Perform the role, following the director's instructions.
  • Keep headshots, resume and reel current and send them for new roles.

Actor resume format and template

  • One page, with a headshot attached, credits in reverse order, split by film, television, web, theater and advertising.
  • For a beginner acting resume template, keep the same headings and lead with training, school and community productions, short films and workshops.
  • Put height, age range, languages and special skills near the top; check each casting notice for the details it asks for.
  • Do not list unfinished projects as credits; quality of credits matters more than count.

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

Education and certifications
