FAQ

Art Teacher resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

Do I need a teaching license to be an art teacher?

Public schools generally require a state teaching license with an art endorsement, and requirements differ by state. Private schools and community programs may hire on a degree and portfolio. Write the license, subject and grade range, or say that it is in progress.

Should an art teacher add a portfolio link?

Yes, as a link. Include 8 to 12 pieces of your own work and a few student works shared with permission, and say in one line which media and grade levels the samples cover so a principal can see your range.

What are good skills for an art teacher to list?

Drawing, painting, craft and design, plus lesson planning, assessment and classroom management. Name the media and software you use, and add one number such as students taught or works exhibited to show the scale of your teaching.
