FAQ

IT Director resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What should an IT director's resume show?

Team size, IT budget, the systems and sites you ran, availability, cost saved, audit findings closed and projects delivered. Put scale first, and describe decisions you owned, such as a cloud move or a vendor reset, with the result for the business.

How do I move from IT manager to IT director on my resume?

Show scale growth: more people, a larger budget, more sites, and business results. Add vendor strategy, security and audit work, and reporting to executives, and keep hands-on technical tasks to one line each. Name the budget you owned and the number of managers who reported to you.

How is an IT director different from a CTO?

An IT director usually runs internal technology, vendors, security and budget for the business, while a CTO builds the technology the company sells. Write the title and scope you actually held, and name the systems or products behind each result.
