Application letter for student: 4 Philippine samples

An application letter for student applicants asks a school, a company or a scholarship committee to say yes to you: a grant, a training place, a part-time job or a seat. Below are four complete samples (scholarship, OJT, student assistant and admission), and the few lines that make a student with little to show still sound ready.

Application letter for student: what the reader wants to see

A student is judged on promise rather than on a record, so the reader looks for three things: that you understand what you are applying for, that you have done something with the chances you already had, and that you will use the yes well. Grades alone do not carry a letter. A class project, a school organization, a part-time job, a tutoring habit or a barangay activity all count when you name them and give a result.

Keep every letter to one page and four short paragraphs: the request in one line, your proof, your reason, and a polite close. Below is an application letter sample for student requests of four kinds, written as letters. They are illustrative and fictional: the names, schools and numbers are invented, so write your own facts and never send a sample unchanged. If you are asked for a different document, such as an essay or a resume, give that separately and keep the letter short.

Application letter for scholarship: sample

The application letter for scholarship is the one most students write, and the one most often written badly: it is a plea for money. A stronger version states what you have earned, what the scholarship will let you finish, and what you will give back. This application letter for scholarship sample is for a college student.

The Chairperson, Scholarship Committee

[Name of foundation or office]

Dear Madam or Sir:

I respectfully ask to be considered for the scholarship announced for second-year engineering students. I am a Civil Engineering student with a general weighted average of 1.45 and an officer of our department's student council.

My father is a jeepney driver and my mother sells vegetables, and I have paid part of my fees by tutoring Grade 10 students in Mathematics on weekends. Last term I led a drive that collected 120 books for a barangay reading corner.

The scholarship would let me stop weekday work and spend the time on my design subjects. I plan to return to my province as an engineer and to keep tutoring there. My grades, certificate of indigency and two recommendation letters are attached.

Respectfully yours,

Angelica Marie Santos

This example of application letter for scholarship can be shortened for a small grant. A form may call it a scholarship request; the content is the same: begin with the request, then the proof. Add only the attachments the notice lists.

Application letter for OJT student

An application letter for OJT student applicants goes to a company that has no duty to take you. Show that you can be useful in the first week, mention the hours your school requires, and say when you can begin.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student and I would like to do the on-the-job training hours my course requires at your company, starting in January. I am free on weekdays from January.

I can build and test web pages in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and I set up the inventory sheet and a small web form for our school's cooperative store, which now records about 40 orders a week. I want to learn how a working team handles tickets and releases.

My resume, school endorsement letter and grades are attached. I would be happy to come in for an interview at your convenience.

Respectfully yours,

Carlo Emmanuel Bautista

Application letter for students with no experience: student assistant

An application letter for students with no experience cannot lean on a job history, so it leans on reliability. Say when you are free, and give a dated, checkable fact: a school role, a perfect attendance record or a task you were trusted with.

The Head, Library Services

[Name of school], Sample City

Dear Ma'am or Sir:

I would like to apply as a student assistant in the library for the coming semester. I am a second-year Education student with no previous job, and my classes end by 1:00 pm every day, so I can work every afternoon.

I was the class librarian in my senior year of high school, keeping a borrowing record for 80 books without losing one. I am careful with records, patient with younger students and always on time. I am willing to be trained in your system.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully yours,

Regina Joy Lumbad

Letter of intent sample for school

A letter of intent says that you intend to enroll, and why; schools sometimes ask for one before the entrance test. This letter of intent sample for school is the kind a parent or a student sends to an admissions office when a school asks for one before the entrance process. Keep it short and respectful, with a reason that is about the school and not only about yourself.

The Registrar

[Name of school], Sample City

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing to express my intent to enroll in Grade 11 in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics strand for the next school year. I graduated from Grade 10 with a general average of 92 and placed second in my school's science fair.

I chose your school because of its robotics club and its record in the regional science competition, which I hope to join. I intend to study engineering after senior high school.

My report card and birth certificate copies are attached, and I would welcome an interview or an entrance test. Thank you.

Respectfully yours,

Miguel Antonio Ramos

Sending a student application letter

Read the notice twice and match its wording: the exact name of the scholarship, post or program, the closing date and the list of attachments. Type the letter, sign it above your printed name, and keep the file name clear, such as Santos-Scholarship-Letter.pdf, if you send it by email. If the school or company has not given a format, the block layout shown above is the one to use.

You will probably need a short resume as well, even with little to put in it. The college student resume examples and the guide on a resume with no experience show how to build one from school work and activities. For a teaching job after graduation, see the application letter for a teacher, and for an email that carries the letter, the page on the email for a job application.

    FAQ

    Questions, answered.

How long should a scholarship letter be?

One page, in four short paragraphs: the request, your proof, your reason and the close. A committee reads many, and a letter that stays on one page and names real results is easier to remember than a long appeal.

Should I mention my family's income in a scholarship letter?

Only if the notice asks about need, and then in one plain sentence with the supporting paper attached, such as a certificate of indigency. Keep the rest of the letter about what you have done.

What is the difference between a letter of intent and an application letter?

A letter of intent states that you plan to enroll or take part, and why, and may come before any formal process. An application letter requests a specific award or post and is judged on its proof. For a school, the two are often combined.
