What the letter has to do
The person who opens it is usually a school head or a division personnel officer with a stack of applications and a vacancy notice beside them. The letter has one job: to make the match obvious. Name the post exactly as the notice names it, say where you saw the vacancy, state your license or the licensure status you hold, and give one or two things that show you can run a class.
Keep it to one page and three or four short paragraphs, in the formal block layout used for any teaching application: your address, the date, the person addressed, the salutation, the body, the closing and your signed name. The three samples below follow it. They are illustrative and fictional; the names, the schools and the numbers are invented, so replace every detail with your own and never send a sample unchanged.
Sample application letter for teacher: fresh graduate
This sample suits a fresh graduate who has passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers and has no classroom employment yet. Use your practicum for your proof, since it is the teaching you have actually done.

Schools Division Office of [your city or province]
Dear Sir or Madam:
I respectfully apply for the position of Teacher I (Elementary) advertised in your vacancy notice dated 1 October 2026. I graduated with a Bachelor of Elementary Education in 2026 and passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers in September of the same year.
During my practicum at a public elementary school I taught Grade 3 Mathematics for ten weeks and prepared daily lesson plans that my cooperating teacher approved. I made number cards from scrap material for a group of pupils who were behind in multiplication, and the group's quiz scores rose from an average of 6 out of 20 to 13 out of 20 by the end of the term. I can also handle a multigrade class and am willing to be assigned to a remote barangay school.
Enclosed are my resume, personal data sheet, transcript of records and copy of my professional license. I would be grateful for the chance to demonstrate a lesson.
Respectfully yours,
Maria Cristina Dela Cruz
Example of application letter for teacher with experience
This example is for someone who already teaches. It shows the change: the proof is a result from your own class, and the reason for applying is stated plainly. It is for a teacher moving to a public school from a private one, the usual case for a teacher applying to a new school.

The Principal
[Name of school], Sample City
Dear Sir:
I am applying for the vacant teaching position in Junior High School Science stated in your notice. I am a licensed professional teacher with five years of experience teaching Grades 7 and 8 Science at a private school, and my resume is attached.
In my current school I rewrote the Grade 8 laboratory activities into low-cost versions that use materials from the market, so every class of 45 could take part in each activity. The passing rate in my Grade 8 section rose from 78% to 91% over two school years. I also served as adviser to the science club and trained two teams for the division science fair.
I am applying to serve in a public school because I want to teach in my own community. I am available to demonstrate a lesson at the school's convenience. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Very truly yours,
Ronaldo B. Villanueva
Sample application letter for teacher without experience
If you have neither teaching experience nor, yet, the license, a sample application letter for teacher without experience needs a different center: your training, any tutoring you did, and your willingness to learn. State your license status honestly, and never imply a license you do not hold. This one is for a private school and a teacher-aide post that can lead to a classroom.

The School Director
[Name of school], Sample City
Dear Madam:
I am writing to apply for the teaching position in Kindergarten that you posted on 5 October. I am a 2026 graduate of Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and will take the Licensure Examination for Teachers at the next scheduled sitting.
I have no classroom employment yet, but for two years I tutored six neighborhood children in reading and counting. By the last month, five of the six could read a short story aloud on their own. I planned the sessions with picture cards and songs, and I would bring those methods, with patience and a willingness to be coached, to your kindergarten classes.
My resume and transcript of records are enclosed. I would welcome an interview or a trial lesson, and I can start whenever the school needs me.
Respectfully yours,
Jhoanna Mae Reyes
Who to address the application letter to, and how
The addressee depends on the school. For a public school post the vacancy notice normally tells you where applications go, often the Schools Division Superintendent or the school head; copy that name and office exactly. For a private school, address the school director or the principal. If you cannot find a name, use the title alone and a polite “Dear Sir or Madam”.
| Where you apply | Address it to | Salutation |
|---|---|---|
| Public school or division office (for example a Teacher I post) | As named in the vacancy notice | Dear Sir or Madam: |
| Private school | The school director or the principal | Dear Sir: or Dear Madam: |
| Applying to a named person | Their full title and office | Dear Mr. / Ms. Surname: |
Hiring rules for public schools change from time to time. Check the current notice and ask your Division Office what it requires for the Teacher I application letter before sending, rather than relying on what an older sample says.
What to attach and how to send it
Attach what the notice asks for and nothing more; a long list of documents makes a thin letter look thorough. Common items are the resume, a transcript of records and a copy of your license. Put an enclosure line at the foot of the letter listing them, so the reader can check that the packet is complete. Build the resume with the Philippines resume format guide, and if the school wants a different document, see the page on biodata.
If you send by email, keep the body to three lines and attach the letter as a PDF. The pages on writing the email that carries a resume and on application letters for students cover the parts that carry over. A teacher also needs a resume that lists coaching and class results, as in the teacher resume example.
