Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Store Manager position at Urbanweave's new store in Rajpur Road, Dehradun. I am assistant store manager at Trendline Fashion in Pacific Mall, where I have worked for five years, starting as a customer associate.
As assistant manager I run the floor and rosters for fourteen staff. Last year I set weekly category targets for each associate and made sure fast sizes were back on the floor before lunch, and like-for-like sales grew 16%. Our shrinkage was high on denim and accessories, so I started daily counts of high-value items and moved the counter layout; shrinkage fell from 1.1% to 0.4% of sales. Our store scored 94% on the brand's last VM audit, and I have trained twenty new sales staff.
I have a BBA in Retail Management, and I know Dehradun's shoppers and festive peaks well.
A new store needs a manager who can hire and train quickly and keep standards from the first day. I can join after 30 days' notice and would welcome a visit to the site.
Sincerely,
Jordan Aldridge

Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to apply for the Area Manager role at Circuit Electronics in Gujarat. For three years I have run Voltmart Electronics' 8,000 sq ft store on SG Highway, Ahmedabad, with ₹18 crore annual sales and 32 staff.
When I took over, the store ranked 19th of 60 in the region. I focused on three things: coaching staff to offer extended warranty and accessories with every large appliance, fixing rosters so the best sellers covered weekend evenings, and a monthly recognition scheme. Warranty attach rose from 11% to 24%, sales grew 22% in two years and the store now ranks fourth. Staff attrition, which had been 55%, fell to 30%, so our festive season now runs on experienced people.
Before that I was assistant store manager in Vadodara, where I ran receiving and stock and kept inventory accuracy at 99.2%. I hold an MBA in Marketing.
Managing several stores means building store managers who can do what I did in one. I would like to discuss how I would do that across your Gujarat stores. My notice period is 60 days.
Sincerely,
Alicia Prescott
Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching retail manager resume and the skills retail manager job adverts ask for. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter
Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:
- I took my electronics store from rank 19 to rank 4 of 60 in the region and grew sales 22% in two years, and I am applying for your Area Manager role.
- As an assistant store manager who helped grow like-for-like sales 16% and cut shrinkage to 0.4%, I would like to run your new store as Store Manager.
What to write in the body
One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a retail manager, the body should also:
- Tell one turnaround or growth story with numbers: sales, attach, shrinkage, rank.
- Show how you build the team: hiring, training, attrition.
How to close the letter
Retail hiring managers like to meet candidates in a store. Offer a store visit or a walk of their store with your observations, give your notice period, and say whether you can relocate for a new opening. Keep the close short and practical.
Writing it with no experience
- Use supervisor or senior associate work: rosters, stock, training, with numbers.
- Show personal sales results and any time you ran the store alone.
- Say you are ready to relocate or open a new store.
Mistakes to avoid
- A letter about loving fashion or gadgets with no sales numbers.
- No mention of team or shrinkage.
- Not naming the store type and size you manage.
How do I write a retail manager cover letter?

How long should a retail manager cover letter be?
About 300 words.
