Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Barista position at Kaapi Corner's Indiranagar outlet, which I saw on your Instagram page. I am in the second year of a BSc in Hospitality at Christ University, and I would like to spend my weekends and evenings behind a busy bar while I finish my degree.
During four weeks of industrial training at The Lakeside Hotel's lobby coffee shop, I served more than 120 covers a day and made cappuccinos and cold coffees under a senior barista who checked every cup before it left the bar. I learnt to keep the counter clean between rushes, to restock before a shift rather than during it, and to stay polite when a queue grows.
I have completed a barista basics course with a Coffee Board of India training partner and a FoSTaC food safety certificate. I can pull a shot to a set time, steam milk for a flat white or a cappuccino, and pour a heart and a tulip. I also billed on a POS during my training and closed my cash drawer without a difference.
I speak English, Hindi and Kannada, which helps with your neighbourhood customers. I can work any weekend shift and full time from June, and I would be glad to do a trial shift so you can see my work at the bar.
Sincerely,
Sophie Martin

Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to apply for the Senior Barista role at Roast Theory's new Lower Parel store. For three years I have worked on specialty and chain bars in Mumbai, and I currently make more than 250 drinks on a weekend shift at Bluebeam Coffee Roasters while keeping drink times under three minutes.
At Bluebeam I dial in two espresso blends every morning and train new joiners; nine baristas have passed the store's drink check in their first week under me. I cut our milk waste by 22% by teaching the team to pitch milk to cup size, and I suggested one food pairing with every order, which lifted add-on sales by 18% over a quarter.
Before Bluebeam I worked at Brewhouse Cafe in Andheri, where I billed on Petpooja, handled Swiggy and Zomato orders through the evening rush and closed the till with no cash difference for 11 months in a row.
A new store needs a bar that runs to the same standard on day one and day ninety. I would bring my opening checklist and training notes, and my notice period is 15 days. I would welcome a trial shift at your roastery.
Sincerely,
Kevin Tran
Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching barista resume and the skills barista job adverts ask for. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter
Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:
- I make 250+ drinks on a weekend shift with ticket times under three minutes, and I would like to bring that pace to your Barista opening.
- As a hotel management student who served 120 covers a day during coffee-shop training, I am applying for the part-time Barista role at your café.
What to write in the body
One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a barista, the body should also:
- Name the machines, brew methods and POS you have used, and any course or SCA level.
- Mention cash handling and delivery-app orders; cafés trust baristas with the till.
How to close the letter
End by offering a trial shift, which is how most cafés hire, and state the shifts you can work and when you can start. For a specialty café, add one line about a coffee you enjoy brewing and why; it shows interest that a general request for an interview does not.
Writing it with no experience
- Lead with any food service, retail, hotel training or college canteen work and the volume you handled there.
- Show you have started learning: a barista course, home brewing, or a café you have studied, named honestly.
- Offer flexible shifts and a trial shift; entry-level barista jobs are filled by people who can cover the rota.
Mistakes to avoid
- Writing a long letter about loving coffee without one fact about speed, hygiene or customers.
- Sending the same letter to a specialty roastery and a highway food court.
- Leaving out your available shifts and joining date.
How do I write a barista cover letter with no experience?
Keep it short: the job and outlet, any customer-facing or food work with numbers, a barista or food safety course if you have one, your languages and shifts, and an offer to do a trial shift.
Do cafés in India read cover letters?
Chain outlets often hire through walk-ins and apps, but specialty cafés and hotel coffee shops do read short letters and emails. A few specific lines help you get the trial shift.
What should a senior barista cover letter mention?
Volume and ticket times, drinks you have trained others to make, waste or cost you have cut, and any menu or quality work you own.
How long should a barista cover letter be?
Three or four short paragraphs, under a page. Managers read them on a phone between shifts.
