Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the position of Steward at Himalayan Heights Resort, Mussoorie, which I saw on the Apna app. I have just completed a Diploma in Food & Beverage Service in Dehradun, and I would like to start my career in a resort restaurant.
During sixteen weeks of industrial training at The Doon Grand, a 5-star hotel, I served more than 60 covers a shift in the coffee shop and helped set up and serve four banquets of over 300 guests each. I learnt tray and silver service, how to take an order and repeat it back so the kitchen gets it right, and how to use the restaurant POS. When a guest complained that her food was late, I apologised, told my captain and kept her updated until it arrived; she thanked us at the end.
I hold a FoSTaC Basic Food Safety certificate. I speak Hindi, English and Garhwali, which helps with guests from the hills and the plains.
I can work all shifts, including weekends and weddings, and can join immediately. I would be glad to come for a trial shift.
Sincerely,
Ethan Walker

Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to apply for the Senior Steward position at Coastal Pearl, Udupi. I have four years as a waiter in Mangaluru, most recently as senior waiter at Karavali Kitchen, a busy 120-cover seafood restaurant.
On weekend nights I run a section of eight tables and serve 70 to 90 covers. I know the menu well enough to explain how each fish is cooked and which dishes suit guests who avoid spice or have allergies. By suggesting one dessert or drink to every table, I raised my average bill per table by 14%, and I was the top upseller in nine of the last twelve months. Guests have named me in more than 40 online reviews. I also train new stewards on the menu and the order of service.
Before the restaurant I worked in a banquet hall serving weddings of up to 800 guests, which taught me to stay calm when the whole hall is served at once.
My notice period is 15 days, and I would welcome a trial shift at your restaurant.
Sincerely,
Lauren Mitchell
Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching server resume and the skills server job adverts ask for. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter
Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:
- I raised my average bill per table by 14% and was named in 40+ guest reviews last year, and I am applying for your Senior Steward position.
- Fresh from an F&B service diploma with 16 weeks at a 5-star hotel, I would like to apply for your Steward vacancy.
What to write in the body
One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a server, the body should also:
- Show one guest-service moment and one sales number.
- Mention languages, hygiene training and shift availability.
How to close the letter
Restaurants hire waiters on a trial shift. Offer one, and state the shifts you can work, including weekends, weddings and festivals, and when you can join. Keep it short and polite, the way you would speak to a guest.
Writing it with no experience
- Use training, family events or part-time catering, with numbers.
- Mention languages and a food safety certificate.
- Offer a trial shift and full shift flexibility.
Mistakes to avoid
- No numbers on covers or sales.
- Not saying which shifts you can work.
- A long letter; managers read between services.
How do I write a waiter cover letter?
Name the job, give covers and section size, show one guest-service moment and a sales number, list languages and hygiene training, and offer a trial shift.
What should a fresher waiter write?
Your F&B training, covers served, service styles learnt, languages, food safety certificate and shift availability.
Do restaurants need a cover letter?
Hotels often ask; restaurants may not, but a short note with your numbers helps you get the trial.
How long should it be?
Three short paragraphs.
