What does a server do?
O*NET lists tasks such as presenting menus and answering questions about them, taking orders, preparing checks and collecting payments, checking IDs for age-restricted drinks, preparing tables and cleaning up after guests. In the US, servers work mostly in restaurants with early, late, weekend and holiday shifts, part-time work is common, and most earn their pay from hourly wages with tips as a part. A server resume should show covers per shift, section size and guest feedback. What are server duties for a resume?
Taking orders, serving food and drinks, checking IDs for alcohol, preparing checks, collecting payments and setting and cleaning tables. List server duties on your resume as results rather than tasks, and keep the three or four that match the job posting.
What is a server description for a resume?
O*NET lists the core tasks: presenting menus and answering questions, taking orders, serving food and drinks, checking IDs, preparing checks and collecting payment, and preparing and cleaning tables. For a server job description on a resume, turn each into a line with a number, such as covers or tables.
How do I write a server experience resume section?
Give each job three or four lines: restaurant type and size, your section or covers a shift, and one result such as check size, guest reviews or fewer order errors. A server experience resume reads best when each line starts with a verb and ends with a number.
What skills should a restaurant server list?
Order taking, POS, menu and allergen knowledge, upselling, section management and wine and bar basics, plus calm manner and teamwork. Prove two or three in your bullets. A restaurant server resume should show skills the job posting names.
Should I mention tips on my resume?
No. BLS notes that most servers get their earnings from hourly wages, with tips for some. Mention sales, check size and guest feedback instead; a resume for server experience that shows results is stronger than tip totals.
How do I write a waitress resume or banquet server resume?
Lead with the venue and volume: covers per shift, table count and average check. For a banquet server resume, add event size and the number of servers on the team. Waitress resume examples that read well name the POS system and any alcohol-service card, and use one number per bullet.
What are good server resume bullet points for an experienced server?
Use the shape verb, volume, result: Served up to 60 covers a shift in a 90-seat restaurant; raised the average check 9% by recommending pairings; trained 6 new servers. An experienced server resume also lists the sections you worked, the POS system, and certifications such as an alcohol server card or food handler card.
