Bartender Resume Examples & Format

A bartender mixes and serves drinks, takes orders and payments, keeps the bar stocked and clean, and checks that guests are of age and not over-served. A bartender resume should prove skills such as cocktail and drink recipes, high-volume service, and POS systems and tab management with numbers from your own work. What does a bartender do?

Some bartenders work a busy bar at a restaurant, hotel or stadium, where speed and volume count; others work a craft cocktail bar, where recipes and product knowledge matter most. Many also serve food, manage a till and close out the bar at night. Because the job is about speed, accuracy and calm with customers, a good bartender resume shows volume, sales and the safe-service training you hold, and a bartending description for a resume should say how busy the bar was and how well you ran it.

Bartender job description for a resume

  • Greet guests, take drink and food orders, and mix and serve drinks to recipe and pour standards.
  • Check ID for age and refuse service to guests who are underage or visibly intoxicated.
  • Take payments, open and close tabs and balance the till at the end of the shift.
  • Stock the bar, ice, garnishes and glassware, and change kegs.
  • Keep the bar, tools and glassware clean and follow health and safety rules.
  • Recommend drinks and answer questions about the menu, spirits, beer and wine.

Bartender resume format and template

  • Keep it to one page and start with volume: guests a night, average ticket, sales or till accuracy.
  • Put your shift availability near the top; bar jobs run evenings, weekends and holidays (BLS).
  • Name the certification you hold and the state it applies in, near the top, next to your availability.

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ

Bartender resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What should a bartender put in a resume description?

Write the venue type, volume and result for each job: guests a night, average ticket, till variance, drinks you created and people you trained. Start each line with a verb and end with a number, so a manager can see how busy the bar was and how well you handled it.

Do I need a certification to be a bartender?

Not always. BLS says many states and localities require a responsible-server course, and a professional certification is optional. Check the rules for your state or county, and list the course name and year on your resume if you hold one.

How do I write a bartender resume with no experience?

Use barback, server, host or catering work, any cash handling and a responsible-server certificate if you have one. State availability for evenings and weekends and show the pace you worked at, such as covers served or tables handled.
