Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Junior Bookkeeper role at Clearbooks Global Services in Indore. I completed my B.Com at Barkatullah University this year and I am certified in QuickBooks Online (ProAdvisor Level 1) and Tally Prime with GST.
I do not yet have work experience, so I made sure my practice was real. On the Tally course I posted 1,200 entries for a sample trading company over three months: sales, purchases, expenses, salaries and GST. Each month I reconciled the bank statement line by line until the difference was zero, and I kept a short note for every entry I had to correct. For the QuickBooks certification I set up bank rules and learnt how a US small business codes its expenses.
I am careful and quick on a keyboard, I am comfortable with Excel lookups and summaries, and I am happy to work night shifts for US clients.
I can join immediately and would be glad to take a bookkeeping test or a practical round.
Sincerely,
Taylor Morgan

Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to apply for the Senior Bookkeeper position at Northbay Accounting Partners. I have four years of bookkeeping at an accounting outsourcing firm in Kochi, where I currently keep the books for eighteen small-business clients in the US and Australia on QuickBooks Online and Xero.
Every client's month is closed by working day seven. I get there by setting up bank feeds and rules that code about sixty percent of transactions automatically, chasing missing receipts in the first week through Dext, and reconciling more than forty bank and card accounts with no unexplained difference. I also review the work of two junior bookkeepers.
The work I enjoy most is clean-up. I have taken six backlogged client files, some fourteen months behind, and brought them current. I wrote a clean-up checklist from that work, and it now cuts catch-up time for new clients by about thirty percent.
Your firm is taking on more Australian clients; I already prepare BAS working papers for four. My notice period is thirty days, and I would welcome a practical test.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Sullivan
Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching bookkeeper resume. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter
Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:
- I keep the books for eighteen US and Australian clients and close every one by working day seven, and I am applying for your Senior Bookkeeper role.
- As a QuickBooks and Tally certified commerce graduate who reconciled three months of practice books to zero difference, I would like to apply for your Junior Bookkeeper role.
What to write in the body
One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a bookkeeper, the body should also:
- Give volume and timing: clients, transactions, close day.
- Mention one clean-up or accuracy result.
How to close the letter
Close with your notice period, shift readiness if clients are abroad, and an offer to take a practical test. Bookkeeping managers trust tests more than adjectives, so invite one.
Writing it with no experience
- Use certification practice sets with entry and reconciliation counts.
- Mention any family business or shop books you kept.
- Offer a test on QuickBooks, Xero or Tally.
Mistakes to avoid
- No software named.
- Claiming tax filing or audit work you did not do.
- Naming outsourcing clients.
How do I write a bookkeeper cover letter?
Name the role and software, give clients and transaction volume, describe how you close and reconcile on time, mention a clean-up result, and offer a test.
What should a bookkeeper with no experience write?
Degree, certifications, a practice set with numbers, Excel and typing skills, and shift readiness.
Do outsourcing firms read cover letters?
Many do for senior roles; for junior roles the test matters more, so keep the letter short and offer one.
How long should the letter be?
About 250 words.
