What to write in the body
One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For an accountant, the body should also:
- Give one number for accuracy or speed: days to close, vendors reconciled, input credit recovered, late fees avoided.
- Mention audits you supported and how they closed; a clean audit is the result employers hire accountants for.
How to close an accountant cover letter
Close by saying which part of their books you would take on first, for example the monthly GST filing or vendor reconciliation, and give your notice period or joining date. Offer to bring sample working papers (with client names removed) to the interview; for accounts roles that is a stronger close than a general request for a call.
Accountant cover letter with no experience
- Lead with your B.Com or M.Com, your marks and any CA/CMA level you have cleared, then describe your articleship, internship or college project with real volumes.
- Show that you know the tools: a Tally or GST course, an Excel reconciliation you built, or the books you kept for a family shop or a college society.
- Tell the employer you are ready to start on voucher entry and bank reconciliation; junior accountant jobs are hired for accuracy on those tasks first.
Accountant cover letter mistakes to avoid
- Writing "I have good knowledge of accounting" without naming a single return, software or ledger you have handled.
- Mentioning your expected CTC in the letter; leave it for the interview unless the advert asks for it.
- Sending the same letter to a CA firm and a manufacturing company: articleship work and plant accounting are different jobs.
