Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Finance Executive role at Sparkle Home Products, which I found on your careers page. I will complete my MBA in Finance at NMIMS Mumbai in April 2026, and I would like to start my career in a company where finance works closely with the plants and the sales team.
During my summer internship in corporate finance at Rangoli Consumer Products, I built a monthly variance report for six cost centres. While checking freight costs against the report, I found that three transporters were billing for trips that had been cancelled, which added up to ₹42 lakh over the year. I took the numbers to the logistics head, and the contracts now include a trip-sheet check. I also wrote a short note on working capital that I presented to the CFO.
In class I built a three-statement model and a DCF valuation of a listed FMCG company, with sensitivity tables on price and volume. I am comfortable with Excel functions and pivot tables, I build dashboards in Power BI, and I have cleared NISM Series VIII.
I can join in June 2026. I would be glad to walk you through my variance report in an interview.
Sincerely,
Jordan Whitaker

Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to be considered for the Manager, FP&A position at Kestrel Consumer Electronics. For the last five years I have worked in financial planning for a consumer durables company, and I currently run the ₹1,800 crore annual budget across nine business units at Voltaire Appliances.
My rolling forecast has stayed within 3% of actuals for eight quarters in a row, largely because I meet the sales and supply heads every month instead of waiting for their numbers. I also rebuilt our monthly MIS in Power BI. Preparation used to take four working days; it now takes one, and the business heads read the dashboard themselves instead of asking finance for cuts.
Before Voltaire I was a finance executive at a Manesar auto component plant, where I compared plant costs to standard and worked with the production team to find ₹1.1 crore a year of scrap savings. I am a CMA Intermediate and work daily in SAP FICO.
Your advert asks for someone to build a forecasting process as the company grows into new categories. That is the work I have done for three years, and I would welcome the chance to discuss it. My notice period is 60 days.
Sincerely,
Natalie Brennan
Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching finance resume. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

Finance cover letter introduction
Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:
- I run a ₹1,800 crore budget with a forecast that has stayed within 3% of actuals for eight quarters, and I am applying for your FP&A Manager role.
- As an MBA Finance student who found ₹42 lakh of freight over-billing during a summer internship, I would like to apply for your Finance Executive opening.
What to write in the body
One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a finance, the body should also:
- Show one money result and how you got it: savings found, interest cut, days reduced.
- Show that you work with the business, not just the ledger; finance hiring managers value partnering.
How to close a finance cover letter
Finish with the first finance problem you would take on in their business, taken from the advert, and your notice period. Offer to share a sanitised model or dashboard in the interview; for finance roles, showing work beats a general request for a meeting.
Finance cover letter with no experience
- Use an internship or live project with a real number: a variance you found, a model you built, a cost you questioned.
- Name your qualifications in progress (CA, CMA, CFA level) and your tools (Excel, Power BI, SAP basics).
- Link your interest to the company's sector, for example FMCG margins or bank credit, in one specific sentence.
Finance cover letter mistakes to avoid
- Writing about a passion for numbers without a single number in the letter.
- Sending a generic finance letter to a bank, a plant and a startup alike.
- Listing every certificate instead of showing one result.

What should a fresher write in a finance cover letter?
Your MBA, BCom or CA/CMA level, an internship or project with a real number, your Excel and modelling skills, and why the company's sector interests you.
How long should a finance cover letter be?
