Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Research Assistant position on the women's livelihoods project at the Centre for Policy and Livelihoods, advertised on your website. I completed my MA in Economics in Delhi this year, and my training in survey data and Stata matches the work described in the advert.
My dissertation asked whether easier access to household water raises women's paid work. I used 1,200 households from a public survey, cleaned and merged three survey modules in Stata, and estimated logit models with district fixed effects. Most of my time went into the data: I documented every cleaning decision in a do-file so that my supervisor could rerun the whole analysis from raw data in one step.
In a methods course I designed a forty-question survey in SurveyCTO and piloted it with sixty respondents, which taught me how often a question that looks clear on paper confuses people in the field. I can conduct interviews in Hindi, Malayalam and English and I am happy to travel for fieldwork.
I can join immediately and would be glad to complete a data task as part of your selection process.
Sincerely,
Dylan Garza

Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to apply for the Research Manager position on your school nutrition evaluation. I have three years of experience on two randomised evaluations in education and health at a development research organisation in Bengaluru, most recently as senior research associate.
I ran the baseline and endline surveys for 8,000 households across two districts. That meant building three SurveyCTO forms of more than 200 questions each, hiring and training twenty-five surveyors, and setting up daily data quality checks. We back-checked ten percent of surveys and kept the discrepancy rate below four percent, which the principal investigators cited in the paper's data section.
I also wrote the cleaning and analysis code in Stata and Python for our working paper, prepared IRB amendments and kept the project's documentation ready for a funder audit.
Your evaluation's mix of field surveys and administrative data is the work I want to lead next. My notice period is thirty days, and I would welcome a conversation.
Sincerely,
Jonah Marsh
