Event Planner Resume Examples & Format

An event planner designs an event from the first brief to the last invoice: the concept and theme, the venue and date, the budget, the decor, catering, sound and lights, performers, guest travel and lodging, and the run-of-show on the day. An event planner resume should prove skills such as event concept and mood boards, budgeting and cost tracking, and vendor sourcing and negotiation with numbers from your own work. What does an event planner do?

The work splits into weddings and social events such as anniversaries and fundraisers, and corporate events such as product launches, conferences and incentive trips. Planners also handle permits, insurance and contracts with venues and vendors. This differs from an event coordinator or event manager: a planner owns the concept, the budget and the client, while a coordinator runs logistics on the day.

Best resume format for an event planner

  • Give events planned, guest numbers and budgets in the same line; a planner without numbers reads like an assistant.
  • Add a link to a portfolio page or Instagram account with photos of events you planned.
  • Keep it to one page; a second page of event lists is better as a portfolio link.
  • Keywords from the post to check on your page: run-of-show, vendor negotiation, budget management, venue sourcing, contracts, attendee experience.

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ

Event Planner resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What is the difference between an event planner and an event coordinator resume?

A planner resume shows concept, budget and client work. A coordinator resume shows on-site logistics and vendor timing. Pick the title that matches what you actually owned, and give guest numbers and budgets for the events behind each line.

Should a wedding planner use the same resume as a corporate event planner?

No. Wedding resumes lead with guest experience, decor and client relationships. Corporate resumes lead with attendees, budgets and business outcomes such as leads or repeat clients. Keep one master list of events and reorder it for each application.

What keywords belong on an event planner's resume?

Use the words in the job post: run-of-show, vendor negotiation, budget management, venue sourcing, contracts, registration and on-site management. Use each next to a result, such as a budget held or a vendor cost cut, so the keyword reads as proof.
