What does an account executive do?

In sales, the role means finding prospects, running demos, sending proposals, negotiating and closing deals against a monthly or quarterly quota. In agencies it means being the client's point of contact. Job posts look for quota achievement, CRM hygiene, pipeline numbers and comfort with B2B selling.

Best resume format for an account executive

  • Lead each role with quota and attainment; it is the first thing a sales leader reads.
  • Show deal size in dollars and sales cycle in days.
  • Name the product type and buyer (HR software to mid-size firms) rather than just "sales".

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ

Account Executive resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What skills matter when applying as an account executive?

Prospecting, demos, negotiation, CRM, proposal writing, pipeline forecasting and account management for renewals. Name the CRM and sales tools in the job post, and give one number for each skill the role stresses, such as demos run, deals closed or renewal rate.

What is the difference between an account executive and an account manager?

An account executive usually wins new business against a quota, while an account manager keeps and grows existing clients. Show which you did, and give the quota, deal size and sales cycle for executive roles or the renewal rate and account count for manager roles.

Should I put my quota achievement as a percentage?

Yes. A percentage with the period, such as 112% of quota for the year, is a clear figure to show. Add the quota size or deal count beside it so a sales leader can judge the scale, and name the quarter or year it covers.
