A business development manager resume should prove skills such as B2B prospecting, discovery and qualification (MEDDIC, BANT), and proposal and RFP writing with numbers from your own work. FAQ

Your questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

How do I become a business development manager with no BDM title yet?

Most move up from business development representative, inside sales or account executive roles. BLS says employers usually prefer several years of sales experience. Show the pipeline you sourced, meetings booked and any deals you helped close, and make your summary name the territory or market you want to own.

Is a business development manager the same as a sales manager?

Not quite. A business development manager usually wins new customers and partners personally, while a sales manager leads a sales team and its targets. BLS groups the closest work under sales managers. Senior BDMs who lead a team do both, so say which on your resume.

What skills does a business development manager need?

Prospecting, qualification, proposal writing, negotiation, partner development, forecasting in a CRM such as Salesforce, and research on target accounts. Soft skills are persistence, listening and handling rejection. Back each one with a deal or a number in your experience section.

What goes on a business development resume?

A business development resume shows pipeline built, deals closed, revenue won and partnerships signed, with dates and figures. Name the markets and the sales cycle length. Lead with the largest result and the tools you use, such as a CRM. Add the team you worked with and any new market you opened.
