Operations Manager Resume Examples & Format

An operations manager oversees the activities that keep a business running and are too varied to belong to one area of management: they set policies, direct daily operations, plan the use of materials and people, make staff schedules, assign work and make sure projects get done. An operations manager resume should prove skills such as operations planning, lean and Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), and KPI reporting and dashboards with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

What does an operations manager do?

In the US, BLS says general and operations managers work in nearly every industry, for both small and large organizations, and most work full time, with many working more than 40 hours a week, including evenings and weekends. An operations manager resume should state the scale you run (team size, orders a day, budget) and the results you owned.

Operations Manager duties to put on a resume

  • Direct daily operations and make sure projects are completed on time.
  • Formulate policies and procedures and recommend changes that improve operations.
  • Plan the use of materials and human resources.
  • Make staff schedules and assign work across shifts.
  • Track cost, turnaround time and quality against targets and report to senior leaders.
  • Manage vendors, contracts and budgets.

Best resume format for an operations manager

  • Open with a summary line stating the scale you run: team size, orders a day, revenue.
  • Show KPIs before and after (OEE 68% to 81%) so the impact is clear at a glance.
  • Use two pages only once you have more than eight years of experience.

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ

Operations Manager resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

Is an operations manager CV different from a resume?

In the UK the same document is called a CV, so a CV for operations manager jobs follows the same pattern: scale you run, KPIs improved with figures, team and budget size, and education. Keep it to two pages at most and use the numbers in the samples as a guide.

Where can I find resume examples for operations manager jobs?

The three samples above cover entry level, five years and twelve years of experience. Copy the structure, not the words: scale first, then before-and-after KPIs, then tools and education. If you want resume examples operations manager recruiters like, keep each line to a verb and a number.

Which KPIs should an operations manager mention?

Pick the ones your industry uses: on-time delivery, OEE, cost per order, turnaround time, SLA compliance, attrition and rework rate. Show the before and after, and the period over which you moved them.

How do I write an operations manager resume with little experience?

Lead with your degree, an analyst or supervisor role with a measured improvement, and skills such as Excel, Power BI and Lean basics. BLS says many managers move up from lower-level management or supervisory positions, so show any shift lead or team lead work.

What is the difference between an operations analyst and an operations manager resume?

An analyst resume shows tasks done accurately; a manager resume shows teams led, targets owned and money saved. If you share an operations manager resume sample with a mentor, ask whether each line shows ownership.
