What does an entrepreneur do?
An entrepreneur resume turns that into proof an employer or investor can check: what you built, how much it earned, how many customers or staff you had and what you learned. There is no single path or credential, so the page lets your results speak, whether you now want a job or a funding round.
Entrepreneur duties to put on a resume
- Find a customer need and test it with real customers before building at scale.
- Build and launch the product or service, and improve it from customer feedback.
- Set prices, manage cash flow and track the numbers that show the business is healthy.
- Sell, market and keep customers coming back.
- Hire, train and manage staff, contractors and suppliers.
- Raise money from investors or lenders when the business needs it.
Best resume format for an entrepreneur
- Lead with results the reader can check: revenue, customers, team size, funding and margin.
- Give the company a plain description in the title line, such as "Founder, online candle shop".
- Keep it to one page; if you are applying for a job, translate founder work into the skills the job asks for.
The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

- A degree in business or entrepreneurship, a founder program or an accelerator is worth listing only if you completed it; name the program and year.
- List licenses, permits or certifications your business needed (for example a food handler permit or a contractor license) only if you hold them, with the issuer and year; check what your state and industry require.
Can I use an entrepreneur resume template?
Yes. Use a simple one-page template with a summary, experience, education and skills. Keep each business to one entry with its dates, your title and three or four results, then trim it to match the job or funding request.
Should I list a failed business on my resume?
Yes, if it taught you something you can show. Give the dates, what you built and what you learned or achieved, such as customers won or revenue earned. Do not hide the end date; employers prefer clear facts.
Where can I see entrepreneur resume examples?
The three entrepreneur resume examples above cover a student founder, a small business owner with five years and a serial founder with twelve. Copy the structure and replace the business, numbers and dates with your own.
What should a business owner resume say about a small business?
Name the business, your years as owner and its size: revenue band, staff and customers, with results such as growth or retention. A small business owner resume adds what you did yourself: sales, books, hiring, operations. Put self employed on a resume as Owner or Founder with dates, and quantify each role you covered.
