Consultant & Consulting Resume Examples

A consultant helps clients solve a specific problem they cannot or do not want to solve alone: improving a process, implementing a system, cutting cost, entering a market or meeting a regulation. A consultant resume should prove skills such as problem structuring, data analysis and modeling, and process mapping and redesign with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

What does a consultant do?

The work covers understanding the client's situation, gathering and analyzing data, designing solutions, presenting recommendations and often helping implement them. Consultants work at large professional services firms, technology consultancies, boutique advisory firms and independently, across strategy, operations, technology (SAP, Salesforce, cloud), HR, tax and risk.

Consultant resume format and template

  • Lead each engagement or role with the client problem and measured impact.
  • Name industries and functions; clients are often confidential.
  • One page for analysts; two for managers.
  • For UK roles, consultant CV examples run to two pages with a short profile, one column and reverse-chronological order, and a CV template for consulting firms follows that layout.

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ

Consultant resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What should a consultant CV template for UK jobs include?

Up to two pages: a short profile, then each engagement with the client industry, the problem, your role and the measured result, then education and certifications. Keep one column, no photo or date of birth, and name the methods and tools you used, such as process mapping, SAP modules or Power BI.

How do I write a resume for consulting with no experience?

Lead with your degree, then a consulting internship, club project or case competition with a measured result, such as savings found or a placing out of a stated number of teams. Add analysis skills like Excel modeling and PowerPoint storylines, and keep it to one page.

Should I name clients on my resume?

Only if the work is public and your firm allows it. Otherwise describe the client by industry and size, for example "Fortune 500 consumer goods client" or "$2 billion regional bank". The problem, your role and the measured impact matter more than the name.

Is the resume of an SAP consultant different?

Yes. It lists the modules you configure, full-cycle implementations and the phases you worked in, company codes, integrations, go-live results and your SAP certifications. Put the module and the number of implementations in the headline so a recruiter sees them at once.

Which consultant resume applies to management, IT or leasing roles?

A management consultant resume shows engagements, client size and results such as cost cut or revenue gained; an IT consultant resume names platforms, projects and delivery numbers. A leasing consultant resume is a property sales and customer role: units leased a month, occupancy and tours. Keep one type per document.
