What does a scrum master do?
They run sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives, protect the team from mid-sprint changes, track velocity and burndown, and keep the product owner and stakeholders informed. In the US the job sits closest to project management, which BLS describes as coordinating the budget, schedule, staffing and other details of a project; scrum master job postings usually name Jira, Confluence and a certification such as CSM or PSM, so check the job posting and list what you hold.
Scrum Master duties to put on a resume
- Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives for the team.
- Coordinate the schedule, staffing and details of each sprint and release with the product owner.
- Track velocity, burndown and cycle time, and report progress to stakeholders.
- Monitor milestones and deliverables and raise risks and blockers early.
- Remove obstacles that slow the team, escalating to managers when needed.
- Coach the team and the wider organization on agile practices.
- Keep the backlog and the Jira board accurate and ready for planning.
Best resume format for a scrum master
- Put your certification next to your name or headline (CSM, PSM, SAFe) if you hold one; recruiters search for it first.
- Show team size, number of teams and time zones in every job entry.
- Report delivery numbers: velocity, commitment reliability, cycle time, release frequency.
The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

Where can I find scrum master resume samples?
The three samples on this page cover entry level, four years and ten years of experience. Copy the structure, not the words: each one leads with team size, then delivery numbers, then certifications, with all names and figures invented for illustration.
Do I need a technical background to be a scrum master?
Not strictly. BLS says the closest occupation, project management specialist, typically needs a bachelor's degree that may be in a variety of fields. Many job postings prefer some time as a developer, tester or business analyst, so show any of that.
How do I show impact as a scrum master?
Use team-level numbers: sprint commitment reliability, cycle time, defects escaping to production and how often you release.
