Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Junior Graphic Designer role at Park Street Creative, which I saw on Behance Jobs. I completed my BFA in Applied Art at Rabindra Bharati University this year and a diploma in graphic design, and my portfolio is linked below.
During a three-month internship at Spice Route Foods I designed 48 Instagram posts, six menu cards and a packaging label that went to print for three products. The first menu card took four rounds of changes; after that I started sharing quick Figma mock-ups before building final files, and revisions dropped to two rounds per job.
I work in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Figma, and I prepare print files with proper bleed and CMYK. I enjoy the moment when a brief that sounds vague becomes one clear idea on the page.
I can join immediately and would be happy to do a short design test on a brief of your choice.
Sincerely,
Mitali Bhattacharya

Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to apply for the Senior Graphic Designer role at Lodhi Brand Studio. For four years I have designed brand kits, social campaigns and print collateral at an agency in Delhi, for more than 20 clients.
At Pixelwave Creative Agency I design over 60 assets a month across eight retainer clients and have built five full brand kits, from logo to social templates. For a retail client's festival campaign I proposed one strong illustration system instead of separate posts for each offer; the client's post engagement rose by 40% over the season. I also brief junior designers and review about 15 of their files a week.
Before the agency I was a junior designer at Indigo Print and Media, where I learnt print production properly: proofs, paper stock and why a rich black matters.
My portfolio is linked below, starting with the festival campaign and two brand kits. My notice period is 30 days.
Sincerely,
Arjun Malhotra
Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching graphic designer resume and the skills graphic designer job adverts ask for. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter
Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:
- My festival campaign for a retail client lifted post engagement by 40%, and I am applying for your Senior Graphic Designer role; my portfolio is linked below.
- As an applied art graduate whose packaging label went to print during my internship, I would like to apply for your Junior Graphic Designer role.
What to write in the body
One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a graphic designer, the body should also:
- Give numbers where they exist: assets a month, brand kits, engagement, revision rounds.
- Name your tools and print knowledge.
How to close the letter
Close with the portfolio link (Behance, Dribbble or a PDF under 10 MB), a note on which pieces to see first, and your notice period. A letter laid out with care is part of the application.
Writing it with no experience
- Build a portfolio of 8 to 12 pieces: college work, personal briefs, redesigns of real brands (labelled as concepts).
- Describe one internship or freelance job and what reached print or went live.
- Offer a short design test.
Mistakes to avoid
- No portfolio link, or a huge unorganised folder.
- Presenting concept redesigns as real client work.
- A plain, badly aligned letter from a designer.
How do I write a graphic designer cover letter with no experience?
Link a focused portfolio, describe any internship or freelance work that went live, name your tools, and offer a design test.
What should an experienced graphic designer include?
The clients and work types you handle, volume, one campaign result, brand kits built, review or mentoring work, and the portfolio pieces to see first.
Should a graphic designer's cover letter be designed?
Yes, lightly: like the graphic design cover letter examples above, use the same clean type and layout as your resume. Avoid heavy graphics that slow reading.
Where should I put my portfolio link?
In the first or last paragraph and in the header, as a short, clickable link.
