Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the post of Art Teacher (Primary and Middle) at Vidya Niketan School, advertised in the Lokmat and on your website. I completed my BFA in Painting at the Government College of Fine Art, Nagpur, this year, and I have taught art to school children for two years.

During a four-month internship at Saraswati Vidya Mandir I taught 120 students of Classes 3 to 6 across eight sections, planned 24 lessons that moved from line drawing to colour and collage, and organised a school exhibition of more than 150 student works for parents' day. On weekends I have run hobby classes for children aged 6 to 12 since 2024.

I have cleared the Elementary and Intermediate Drawing Grade Examinations and completed an online diploma in art education. I believe every child can draw with confidence when the first lesson is about looking, not about talent.

I would be happy to give a demonstration lesson at your school. I can join from the new session.

Sincerely,
Hana Zielinski

Dear Hiring Manager,

I would like to apply for the post of Art Teacher for Classes 4 to 10 at Delhi Public School, Indore. I have taught art for four years in CBSE schools in Bhopal, and I hold a BFA in Applied Art and a B.Ed.

At Greenfield Public School I teach 280 students across Classes 4 to 10, 26 periods a week. I redesigned the art syllabus into ten project units that connect with the students' other subjects, and our annual art show now displays about 300 works to 800 visitors. In 2025, six of my students won district or state prizes in drawing and poster competitions.

Before that, at Little Wings School, I taught 160 primary students and grew the art club from 18 to 45 members by giving it a real exhibition at the end of every term. I also prepare students for the Elementary and Intermediate Drawing Grade Examinations.

I would welcome the chance to bring the same project-based approach to your school, and I am happy to give a demonstration lesson. My notice period is one month.

Sincerely,
Imtiaz Siddiqui

Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching art teacher resume. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter

Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:

  • I teach art to 280 CBSE students across Classes 4 to 10, and six of them won district or state prizes last year; I am applying for your Art Teacher post.
  • As a BFA graduate who taught 120 students in eight sections during my teaching internship, I would like to apply for the post of Art Teacher at your school.

What to write in the body

One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For an art teacher, the body should also:

  • Show results schools value: exhibitions, competition prizes, drawing grade exam passes, a stronger art club.
  • Mention your degree (BFA, MFA, Diploma in Art Education) and B.Ed if the school requires it.

How to close the letter

Close by offering a demonstration lesson, which most schools use for art posts, and mention when you can join (for example, from the new session in April). Attach or link a small portfolio of your own work and your students' work.

Writing it with no experience

  • Use your BFA practice teaching, weekend hobby classes, summer camps or NGO art sessions, with the number of children and ages.
  • Mention your drawing grade exams and any art education course, and link a small portfolio.
  • Offer a demonstration lesson; for new art teachers it is the strongest proof you can give.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing only about your own art and not about teaching children.
  • Leaving out the B.Ed or teaching qualification the school advert asks for.
  • Forgetting to mention the board (CBSE, ICSE, State) you have taught.

FAQ

Your questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

How do I write a cover letter for an art teacher job?

Name the post and the school, give your degree and B.Ed, the classes and number of students you have taught, one result (an exhibition or prizes), and offer a demonstration lesson.

What should an art teacher with no experience write?

Your BFA or diploma, your practice teaching or hobby classes with numbers, drawing grade exams, a small portfolio, and an offer to give a demonstration lesson.

Is an application letter for an art teacher different from a cover letter?

In India many schools call it an application letter. The content is the same: post, qualifications, experience and availability.

Should I attach my art portfolio?

Yes, a short one: 10 to 15 images of your own work and students' work, as a PDF or link.
