Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the post of TGT Mathematics and Science at a CBSE school in Lucknow, advertised on your website. I completed my B.Ed at the University of Lucknow this year with 78%, after a B.Sc in Mathematics and Physics, and I have qualified CTET.

During ten weeks of teaching practice at a CBSE school I taught mathematics and science to Classes 6 to 8. I found that many Class 7 students could follow a worked example but froze when the numbers changed, so I began every lesson with three short questions on the previous day's topic; by the end of the practice most of the class could solve them without help. I also set up two simple science experiments with material from the school kitchen.

I use smart boards, Google Classroom and Excel for marks, and I am aware of child safety and POCSO guidelines for schools.

I would be glad to give a demonstration class and can join from the new session.

Sincerely,
Pooja Verma

Dear Hiring Manager,

I would like to apply for the post of PGT English at an ICSE school, Thiruvananthapuram. I have four years of experience as PGT English at a CBSE senior secondary school, teaching Classes 9 to 12.

I teach four sections of about 40 students each. Over three board batches, the Class XII English average has risen from 71 to 78, and in the section I tutored last year no student scored below 50. The change that helped most was marking every practice answer against the CBSE rubric and returning it within three days, so students fixed mistakes while they still remembered writing them.

I am class teacher of Class XI, which means parent meetings, attendance and the pastoral side of the job, and I coordinate the school's inter-house debate.

I would bring the same results and care to your senior classes, and I am happy to give a demonstration lesson. My notice period is one month, timed to the end of term.

Sincerely,
Thomas Mathew

Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching teacher resume and the skills teacher job adverts ask for. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter

Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:

  • My Class XII English averages rose from 71 to 78 over three board batches; I am applying for the post of PGT English at your school.
  • As a B.Ed and CTET-qualified mathematics and science graduate with ten weeks of teaching practice in Classes 6 to 8, I would like to apply for the post of TGT.

What to write in the body

One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a teacher, the body should also:

  • Show a student result and the teaching change behind it.
  • Mention class teacher duties, co-curricular work and parent communication.

How to close the letter

Close by offering a demonstration lesson, giving the date you can join (often the new session), and thanking the principal. Schools read many applications, so keep it to one page.

Writing it with no experience

  • Lead with your licence or teaching qualification and your student teaching, with grade levels and lesson counts.
  • Describe one classroom routine or activity and how students responded.
  • Offer a demonstration class.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving out your teaching licence or certification (CTET or TET in India).
  • No board, classes or subject named.
  • A generic letter with no classroom example.

How do I write a teacher cover letter with no experience?
