Business Resume Template & Examples

Many general business roles do not have a narrower title, and a business resume template is written for them: business administration graduates, operations and project coordinators, account and office staff, junior analysts and managers in small and mid-size companies. A business resume should prove skills such as budgeting and financial reporting, Excel and data analysis, and project coordination with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

What does a business do?

The work spans planning and organizing, working with budgets and data, coordinating teams and suppliers, serving customers and reporting results. Because the roles are broad, a good business resume names the function you work in, the numbers you managed and the results you delivered, and uses the keywords of the job posting. This page covers general business roles; analyst, accounting and management roles have their own pages.

Business duties to put on a resume

  • Plan, coordinate and track business operations, projects and schedules.
  • Prepare and analyze budgets, reports and data, and present findings.
  • Work with vendors, customers and internal teams to keep work on schedule.
  • Manage records, invoices and documents accurately.
  • Improve processes and solve problems across departments.
  • Supervise or support staff, where the role includes it.

Best resume format for a business

  • Name the function you work in (operations, sales support, administration) in the summary, so the generic title does not hide it.
  • Use the keywords from the posting, such as budgeting, vendor management or KPI reporting, in your skills and bullets.
  • One page up to about eight years; two pages for managers with budget and team to show.

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ

Business resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What should a business resume include?

Your function, the budget, volume or team size you worked with, results with numbers such as costs cut or time saved, and your degree and relevant software. Use the keywords of the posting in your skills and bullets so the match is clear.

What are good business resume keywords?

Use the terms in the posting: budgeting, forecasting, vendor management, KPI reporting, process improvement, stakeholder communication, project coordination and the software it names. Place them in bullets that show a result, not only in a list.

How do I write a business administration resume as a new graduate?

Lead with your degree, any internship, student consulting or case competition, each with a number, and your Excel and software skills. Name the function you want, such as operations or sales support, and keep it to one page.
