OFW resume format and sample resume for abroad

A resume for abroad is lean, not a Philippine biodata (the sample resume below shows the format): your trade or profession, years of experience, certifications and passport validity up front, then your work history with results. Match the format to the destination, and only apply through agencies licensed by the Department of Migrant Workers.

  • Singapore and Hong Kong: lean resume; for domestic work, the agency's own form is often used.

Skilled trades and technical roles

Put the trade and level first (“Welder, 6G, TESDA NC II”), then the equipment, materials and standards you've worked to, projects by size, and safety certifications.

OFW resume, section by section

  1. Header: name, position applied for, contact details, nationality, passport validity, availability.
  2. Summary: trade or profession, years, key certification, one result.
  3. Experience: employer, country, dates, and results; overseas experience first if you have it.
  4. Licences and certifications: with issuing body and year.
  5. Education and trainings.
  6. Languages: English level and any Arabic, Japanese or other language for the destination.

Household service and caregiver roles

Many placements use the agency's own application form. Keep your own one-page resume anyway: care experience (children, elderly, patients), cooking and household skills, languages, TESDA Caregiving or Housekeeping NC II, and references from previous employers.

Stay safe with recruitment

Apply through agencies licensed by the Department of Migrant Workers, and check the licence on the DMW website. Be wary of anyone asking for placement fees for jobs where fees aren't allowed (for example, household service workers), or for your passport before there's a job offer.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is the best resume format for OFWs?

A lean one-to-two page resume with the position, years of experience, key certifications and passport validity at the top, then work history with results. Not a biodata.

Should I include my passport number?

No. Show that your passport is valid and until when; give the number only to a licensed agency or employer during processing.

Do overseas employers want a photo?

Many Gulf and Asian employers ask for one. UK, US, Canadian and Australian employers don't expect one.

How do I check if an agency is legitimate?

Look up its licence on the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) website before you send documents or pay anything.
