Bus Driver Resume Examples & Format

Bus drivers "transport people between various places", says the Bureau of Labor Statistics: they pick up and drop off passengers at set stops, follow a planned route on a time schedule, obey traffic laws and transit regulations, help passengers with disabilities, and keep the bus clean and checked. A bus driver resume should prove skills such as CDL with passenger endorsement, school bus endorsement, and pre-trip and post-trip inspection with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

Every bus driver needs a commercial driver's license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement, and school bus drivers also need a school bus endorsement. A resume should lead with the license and endorsements, then show routes, passengers, on-time record, safe miles and inspections.

  • Inspect the bus before and after each trip and report defects.
  • Pick up and drop off passengers at set stops on a timed route.

FAQ

Bus Driver resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What does a school bus driver resume sample need to show?

The school bus (S) endorsement, background check clearance, student management and safety: routes driven, number of students, loading and unloading procedures, and any incidents handled calmly. Add first aid and CPR, and say which shifts you can cover.

What license does a bus driver need?

A commercial driver's license with a passenger (P) endorsement. School bus drivers also need a school bus (S) endorsement. BLS says each endorsement needs extra knowledge and driving tests, and drivers must meet age, background and medical standards.

What is the best bus driver resume format?

One page, reverse chronological, with a License and certifications section right after the summary. Use plain headings so the text stays readable when you paste or upload it into a transit agency's or school district's online application.

What skills do bus drivers put on a resume?

Defensive driving, inspections, schedule adherence, ADA passenger assistance, hours-of-service logs and fare handling, plus patience, calm in conflict and customer service. Show each with a number such as on-time rate or safe miles, and keep the CDL and endorsements in their own section.
