Personal Trainer Resume Examples & Format
A personal trainer leads, instructs and motivates individuals in exercise activities: demonstrating exercises, watching clients' technique, adapting programs as they progress, and explaining and enforcing safety rules. A personal trainer resume should prove skills such as program design, strength and conditioning, and fitness assessments with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

What does a personal trainer do?
A personal trainer resume should show your clients, results and certifications in numbers. In the US most fitness trainers work in fitness and recreational sports centers, and many keep variable or part-time schedules that include nights, weekends or holidays.
Personal Trainer duties to put on a resume
- Evaluate clients' abilities, needs and physical condition, and develop suitable training programs.
- Demonstrate exercises and observe clients, correcting technique as needed.
- Monitor clients' progress and adapt programs as they improve.
- Explain and enforce safety rules and the correct use of exercise equipment.
- Offer variations during sessions to suit different fitness levels or address injuries.
- Give information on nutrition, weight control and lifestyle issues within your training.
- Give first aid in an emergency and refer injured clients when needed.
- Promote the gym through membership sales and record member information.
Best resume format for a personal trainer
- Put your certifications and CPR/AED/first aid dates in the top third, since gyms check them first.
- Show client numbers and results: active clients, retention, sessions a month, goals met.
- Add your availability and a link to your Instagram or portfolio, with only professional content.
The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

- BLS says most fitness trainers and instructors hold a certification in their area of fitness, and trainers need CPR, first aid and AED certification. List each with the provider and year, and only if you hold it. Many trainer certifications are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), for example the ACE Certified Personal Trainer; name the exact certification and provider.
- Training for fitness instructors varies greatly, according to BLS. Name any specialty course, such as strength coaching or group fitness, with the provider and year.
