What does a real estate agent do?
Agents find and list properties, price them against recent sales, market them, show them to buyers, negotiate offers and guide both sides through the contract to closing. Every state requires a license, which means pre-licensing coursework and a state exam, and most agents work under a licensed broker (BLS). Most of the pay is commission, so a reader looks at closed transactions, total sales volume and how quickly your listings sold. A real estate resume example that works leads with the license and brokerage, then volume, then the specialties you serve.
Real Estate Agent duties to put on a resume
- Meet clients to learn what they need and what they can afford, and explain the buying or selling process.
- Price listings with comparable sales and market them through the MLS, photography, staging advice and open houses.
- Show properties, field offers and negotiate price and terms for buyers or sellers.
- Track contract deadlines, inspections, financing and closing paperwork until the keys change hands.
- Keep in touch with past clients and prospects through a CRM to earn referrals.
Real Estate Agent resume format and template
- Choose a real estate agent resume template that puts your license and brokerage in the first two lines, with your state and your license year.
- Show closed transactions, total volume, days on market and the percentage of list price. A real estate agent resume with no numbers looks like a job description.
- If you are new, lead with your license and any customer-facing results from past work, such as sales targets, customer satisfaction or a large client list.
- Name your specialty: first-time buyers, relocation, luxury, investment property or a neighborhood.
The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ
Real Estate Agent resume questions, answered.
Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.
How do I write a real estate agent resume with no experience?
Lead with your license and brokerage, then show the numbers from earlier work: sales targets met, customers served, a database or social following. Add your pre-licensing course, any first listings or buyer leads, and the market you plan to serve.
Should a real estate agent put sales volume on a resume?
Yes, if you can state it truthfully. Give the number of closed transactions, the total volume and, if you can, average days on market. For a team, separate what you closed from what the team closed.
Where does a real estate license go on a resume?
Put it in the first two lines under your name, as in Real Estate Salesperson, State of North Carolina, 2026, and again in a License and education section. The license is the first fact a brokerage checks.
