Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Associate Product Manager role at Ganga Commerce Labs, which I saw on LinkedIn. I am completing my MBA at IIM Lucknow, after a B.Tech in Computer Science from Delhi Technological University, and I spent my summer as a product management intern.

At Yamuna Commerce Technologies I interviewed 22 users about why they abandoned their carts. The pattern was clear: many wanted to save items for payday rather than buy now. I wrote the PRD for a saved-cart feature, worked with two engineers and a designer on the flows, and the feature reached 40,000 users before my internship ended. I tracked its use in Mixpanel and wrote a one-page review of what to change next.

I write SQL, sketch flows in Figma and run standups in Jira. My engineering degree helps me understand what a request costs to build before I ask for it.

I will graduate in 2027 and am available for a full-time role from then.

Sincerely,
Ritika Malhotra

Dear Hiring Manager,

I would like to apply for the Senior Product Manager role on your lending app. For four years I have managed fintech products, and at Northwind Payments I own onboarding and KYC for an app with 18 lakh users.

When I took over, only 41% of new sign-ups became active users. Over 14 A/B tests, from shortening the first screen to explaining why we need each document, activation has risen to 57%. The biggest single drop was at KYC, and adding a video KYC option cut drop-off there by a third. I lead a squad of seven engineers, a designer and an analyst, and I write every spec so that the engineers know the why before the what.

Before Northwind I was a business analyst in a consumer app, where I learnt the data side of product decisions.

Your roadmap puts first-time borrowers at the centre, which is the user I know best. My notice period is 60 days.

Sincerely,
Sandeep Pillai

Copy either letter, then change every detail to your own: the company, the job title, your numbers. Pair it with a matching product manager resume and the skills product manager job adverts ask for. The layout, header and greeting are the same for every job: see how to write a cover letter.

How to open the letter

Name the job, where you saw it and your strongest fact in the first two lines. Two openings that work:

  • I raised activation for an 18-lakh-user fintech app from 41% to 57% through 14 experiments; I am applying for your Senior Product Manager role.
  • As an IIM Lucknow MBA student whose internship feature reached 40,000 users, I would like to apply for your Associate Product Manager role.

What to write in the body

One or two paragraphs that prove you can do the job the advert describes. For a product manager, the body should also:

  • Tell one problem-to-outcome story: research, decision, launch, result.
  • Show how you work with engineering, design and data.

How to close the letter

Close by naming one problem in their product you would like to work on, briefly and respectfully, and give your notice period. Product hiring managers value a specific, humble observation over praise.

Writing it with no experience

  • Use a product internship, a side project with users, or a case competition.
  • Show user research, a PRD or a metric you tracked.
  • Mention SQL, Figma and analytics tools.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Claiming credit for a team's launch without saying your part.
  • No metric.
  • Confusing product management with project management.

FAQ

Your questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

What should a product manager cover letter include?

Your product area and users, the metric you own, one research-to-result story, how you work with engineers and designers, and your notice period.

How do I write a product manager cover letter with no experience?

Use an internship, side project or case competition with user research, a spec and a metric, and name your tools.

What is the difference between product and program managers?

Product managers decide what to build and why; program managers coordinate delivery across teams and projects.

Should I include a product teardown?

A short, respectful observation about their product can help; keep full teardowns for the interview.
