Optometrist Resume & CV Examples
An optometrist examines eyes and vision: refraction and prescribing glasses, contact lens fitting, checking binocular vision, measuring eye pressure, screening for conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and cataract, referring to ophthalmologists, and counseling patients. An optometrist resume should prove skills such as objective and subjective refraction, retinoscopy, and slit lamp examination with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

What does an optometrist do?
Optometrists work in private practices, eye clinics, hospitals, optical retail chains, school and community screening programs, and the page should show the settings, patient volumes and procedures you handle.
Best resume format for an optometrist
- Give patient volumes and procedure counts; the optometrist CV format should lead with license and clinical training.
- Name your setting: private practice, hospital, retail or community.
- One page for a new graduate; two for a clinician with residency, teaching or research.
The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

Is a retail optometrist's CV different from a clinical one?
Yes. A retail version adds sales results, contact lens conversion, remake rates and store operations. A clinical version leads with patient volumes, conditions managed, residency training and referrals. Match the job, and keep one section for the side you do less.
Should I include screening events on my optometrist CV?
Yes, with the number of people screened and your role, such as running the visual acuity station or referring cases. A line like 1,200 children at 4 school events shows community work and clinical volume in one number.
Should I list my license number?
List the state and license status on one line under licensure, and add the number if the employer asks. Include the board exams you passed and the year, and keep it current. If your license is pending, say so with the expected date.
How is an optometry CV different from an optometrist resume?
An optometry CV is a longer record that adds board and state licensure, residency, publications and presentations, and is used for academic or hospital posts. An optometrist resume is one or two pages for clinic roles, with patients seen a day, procedures and equipment known. Use the form the posting asks for.
