What does a photographer do?

The work covers planning shoots, lighting, composing and shooting, culling and retouching in Lightroom and Photoshop, managing files and delivering galleries or prints. In India, photographers work in weddings, fashion and e-commerce, press, product and events. Employers look at the portfolio first and the resume second, so the resume should link to it and show volumes and clients.

Best resume format for a photographer

  • Put your portfolio link first, beside your contact details, and make sure it opens on mobile.
  • List your genre (wedding, product, fashion, press) so the right client sees it.
  • Give volumes: shoots a year, images delivered, turnaround days.

The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ

Photographer resume questions, answered.

Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.

Should a photographer list their camera gear?

Yes, briefly, if it matters to the job. Freelance and studio roles often expect you to bring a kit, so list the body, main lenses and lights in one line under skills. Staff roles with house equipment care more about what you can do with any camera.

Which software should a photographer list?

Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop are standard; add Capture One for studio tethering, Premiere Pro if you shoot video, and album or gallery tools if you deliver to clients. Name them as the posting does and tie each to the work you produced with it.

How do I show results without client names?

Use counts such as weddings or shoots completed, images delivered, turnaround days, brands served and repeat or referral booking share. Describe clients by type, such as "national apparel brand", and let the portfolio show the work itself.

What goes on a freelance photographer resume?

Your speciality, shoots or clients by type and count, turnaround times, the software you use, and a portfolio link at the top. List freelance work as one entry with dates rather than one line per client.
