Stage Manager Resume Examples & Format
A stage manager runs a production from the first rehearsal to the final performance: scheduling rehearsals, keeping the prompt book with blocking and cues, writing rehearsal and performance reports, coordinating the director, designers, cast and crew, and calling every light, sound and scenery cue once the show opens. A stage manager resume should prove skills such as prompt book and blocking notation, cue calling, and rehearsal and performance reports with numbers from your own work. Below are three samples, entry-level to senior, with summaries, bullets and skills.

What does a stage manager do?
In the US, stage managers work in regional and touring theatre, Broadway and off-Broadway, opera, dance, theme parks, cruise lines and corporate live events. Professional stage managers can join Actors' Equity, the US union for actors and stage managers, and many theatre job ads ask whether you are an Equity member. A stage manager resume lists productions, venues and your role on each, then shows scale: cast and crew size, cue counts and performances called.
Stage Manager duties to put on a resume
- Schedule and run rehearsals, and record blocking and cues in the prompt book.
- Write rehearsal and performance reports for the director and design team.
- Coordinate the cast, crew, designers and venue staff.
- Call light, sound, fly and scenery cues during performances.
- Keep the show as directed after opening and run understudy rehearsals.
- Keep the backstage area safe and handle emergencies during a show.
Best resume format for a stage manager
- Use a credits section: production, venue or company, your role, year.
- Give scale for each show: cast and crew size, cue count, performances.
- Keep theatre and live events credits in separate groups if you have both.
The section order and what goes in each are on the how to write a resume guide; the resume format guide covers every format by type and country.

FAQ
Stage Manager resume questions, answered.
Still unsure? Send us a message — a real person replies.
What skills should a stage manager list on a resume?
Prompt book and blocking notation, cue calling, rehearsal and performance reports, scheduling, tech rehearsals, show control software and backstage safety, plus calm under pressure and diplomacy. Back the top ones with a credit that shows them.
Should I put Equity membership on a stage manager resume?
Yes, if you are a member. Actors' Equity represents professional actors and stage managers in the US, and many theatre ads say whether the job is Equity or non-Equity. Put it in your headline or contact line so it is seen first.
What is a good format for a resume for stage manager jobs in live events?
Keep the same credits format but describe run-of-show, artist liaison and broadcast timing instead of theatre cues. Group live events separately from theatre so each kind of employer finds the work it cares about quickly.
